water shortage & euros!

Hi!

We are off to Cyprus in just over a week and wanted to check two things:

- how much of a problem the water shortage is for tourists in hotels - we are staying in Nissi Bay;

- also, I know that the euro exhcnage rate is really bad and I%26#39;ve read lots about the high costs in cyprus this year - what%26#39;s the reality; average meal for four (2 adults and 2 children), water park, car hire etc.

Help very much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

We got back from the Nissi Beach area, and the water shortage doesn%26#39;t cause any problems for tourists at all. As such a large portion of Cyprus%26#39; economy is reliant on tourism, the tourist areas never go short (or at least they didn%26#39;t when we were there). They even keep all the plants and gardens watered, to keep the area looking nice, and all of the hotels and restaurants seem to be fine for water. As far as I know, it%26#39;s the residents to get the shortage issues.

Cyprus was a lot more expensive than we thought - car hire was about 45 euros a day from Eurocar for a small hatchback, not including fuel. The waterpark in Ayia Napa works out at about £25 - £30 per adult, I think, although it looked fantastic fun. I would have liked to have gone, but we thought it might be too busy, and didn%26#39;t fancy queuing in the heat!

Have fun, and I hope you enjoy your holiday! Nissi Beach is busy, but absolutely beautiful - the sea is crystal clear, and great for snorkelling!

I just got back from Ayia Napa, and there was no water shortages for tourists in the area.

I was however surprised that the costs weren%26#39;t so high in Cyprus as I had expected. But that being said, I%26#39;m from Norway and we have high costs and a strong currency at this time being.

A meal for one adult would be typical €8-12 + drinks, but I once had a meal with everything included for €9 so it depends on what and where you eat. Taxi for four is typically €8 whereever you go in the Ayia Napa-area, but be sure to ask for the price in advance. A sunbed at nissi is €2.10 + 2.10 for a sun umbrella as well.
