My first visit to the North in just over a weeks time. Can anyone tell me a little bit more about Alsancak as %26quot;Googling%26quot; invariably just brings up property for sale (which probably tells me something!)
Are we talking a village or small town? I know there are places to eat (any recommendations for a non-meat eater who likes fish?) and supermarkets but is there an ATM/bank or car hire there? Is there anything to see or is it just a good base?
Any information gratefully received. Thanks.

I would describe Alsancak as a large Village,I live the other side of Kyrenia and dont really know it that well, yes there are ATMs out on the main Rd try this forum www.phpbb88.com/northerncyprus for up to date reveiws and recommendations from Ex Pats living here. p.s bring the suncream 46 degrees today.

Alsacak is a large village with lots of restaurants such as Cenap (Jenap) for a massive meze, Charcos, Lacem (Lajem), Acmenya (Ajmenia) all serving traditional Cypriot food and all will serve fish. I usually go for a simple grilled sea bream which is absolutely delicious. Then just out of the village on the main road you have Pizza King which is also a bar, Guido%26#39;s Deli and Bistro (brand new only opened this week), Capitano (fish restaurant), Sevener and Tervetuloa Hotel (again traditional Cypriot food). There is also a fantastic kebab restaurant right in the middle of the village called A%26amp;I Fast Food. Huge portions and their doner kebabs are superb. There are probably others that I can%26#39;t think of right now.
The nearest ATM is at Turk Bank which is just down from the village on the main road. There are several supermarkets in close proximity.
All in all a very good base indeed.

Thanks for your help eveyone.
Well I%26#39;m certainly not going to go hungry! Love the idea of a meze on my first night and Cenap would seem to fit the bill. I assume it is easy to find? What sort of price would it be?
Also intrigued at the double naming of some of the places? I guess it might be old Greek names but they don%26#39;t look very Greek.

Hi Plodder
Cenap is right in the middle of the %26quot;main road%26quot; in Alsancak. I%26#39;m not sure what the prices are like but I do know that you get lots and I mean LOTS of food so make sure you are hungry.

PS The words in brackets are just for pronunciation purposes as a C in Turkish is pronounced as a J.

Thanks everyone.
First night meze sorted and a better understanding of Turkish!
I do like to be able to say please/thank you etc but having listened to the BBC language site, I fear I will fail miserably as it sounds really hard to pronounce (and remember!) Any tips?
