First-timers - Where to go for a quiet winter break?

We%26#39;re a couple in our early 50%26#39;s looking at Cyprus for the first time, would like a small villagey place with character, atmosphere, near the coast, preferably away from all the tourist traps. Either a HB hotel or apartment would suit. Any ideas please?

Have a look at the area around Latchi %26amp; Polis - the Natura Beach Hotel is very popular almost year round.

Otherwise I would recommend the Troodos mountain villages - but maybe not for a winter break !

I do not know of any small villages on the coast anymore in Southern Cyprus. There are a few around the Akamas, Goudi,Milos but nothing that would give you much in the winter.

The villages in the mountains are cold and damp and we genrally stay in doors.

I think if you require something with a few eateries you are looking at a resort, Polis and Latchi are the smallest but they are tourist resorts.

Hi RosieJ,

Would also recommend the Polis/Latchi Area.

It%26#39;s very quiet in the winter season bar coach trips from Paphos which only stop an hour or two around lunchtime.Mainly expats and locals after October so it%26#39;s very low key.

We have stayed at a few places in Polis including the Natura Beach Hotel (which is a 15 minute walk) to Polis Square, but our personal preference is the Stephanos Apartments which are a couple of minutes walk to the Square.

Be warned though it can get a wee bit chilly in the evenings although daytime is normally fine for sitting outside.

Any more questions just ask.

All the best

HI,

I agree with the suggestion about Polis area.

Now the %26#39;character%26#39; bit is tricky. If you take that out of the equation, then the supply opens up hugely. Places like Protaras and Ayia Napa have beautiful beaches and would be almost empty, plus you could get excellent deals even at 5 star hotels.

Now there are many picturesque villages around Cyprus, but generally not on the coast. There are villages near the coast (eg Kalo Chorio or Goudi) who have pictureque parts, but have also a lot of new villas around.

Bye for now

Phivos
