water & euros!

Hi!

We are off to Cyprus in just over a week and wanted to check two things:

- how much of a problem the water shortage is for tourists in hotels - we are staying in Nissi Bay;

- also, I know that the euro exhcnage rate is really bad and I%26#39;ve read lots about the high costs in cyprus this year - what%26#39;s the reality; average meal for four (2 adults and 2 children), water park, car hire etc.

Help very much appreciated. Thanks!

hi im off t protarus on wednesday and i have been looking at the water shortage and i have read that although its a bit of a problem for residents who have just 3 days water a week but she says thats not a problem really the tourist side of things doesnt get affected hope this helps when are you going ?

thanks - we are going on th 30th. Am a bit worried in case things get worse.

I agree with Kelly regarding the water situation.

As for the prices, i read somewhere that you can get a good idea about the cost of living of any country by the prices charged by McDonald%26#39;s. So,the cost of a Big Mac regular meal in Cyprus is now 4.70 euro. How does that compare with the UK price?

Tourist areas should be fine as far as water is concerned. Some private villas and apartments are affected. I have friends staying 5 miles from Nissi Bay in a private villa and they are one day on, three days off.

Prices have gone up,some tourists find it expensive, others don%26#39;t seem to be bothered. I have heard though some Cypriots based in the tourist industry are complaining as they are seeing a dropping off in custom. Shopping around for a bargain may be the way forward.

Thank you for your responses - much appreciated.

What is the temperature out in Cyprus at the moment? A friend came back from Turkey yesterday and said it was 47 degrees!

Once again - many thanks.

Hi there

We returned about 2 weeks ago and were regularly paying between 35-40 euros for an evening meal for two adults - usually a main course each and a bottle of wine to share - this was in Paphos - yes we did find it expensive. This was our first trip to Cyprus and will probably be our last

Hi,

Thank you for this.

We%26#39;re off in three days, to Nissi Bay, so will have to see what its%26#39; like when we%26#39;re there. We went two years ago and although we found Cyprus more expensive than Spanish resorts, we didn%26#39;t fine it extortionate. However, prices seem to have gone up noticeably since the euro came in.

Will update everyone when we return.

Thank you!

In reply to accyliz,no idea where you were eating but you obviously didn%26#39;t take time to look around the restaurants. Many of the them along the TOTK road had set menus for between 10-15 Euros. We ate several times at one which had numerous starters and main courses with a choice from 3 sweets for under 12 euros.Where in Britain can you get garlic mushrooms,3 large fillets of chicken in various sauces with a pile of veg and chips and a sweet for under a tenner??

The pub across from us was 2.20 Euros a pint. There was a restaurant on the harbour doing 3 courses for 8.50 euros with free wine and 1.50 euros a pint. Many of the restaurants around Bar Street(the Windmill being one of them) had set menus again from 10 euros.I could go on but since you won%26#39;t be back you won%26#39;t be bothered.
