Using Uk debit cards (natwest) at ATM's in Cyprus

Can anyone let me know if I can use my Natwest Debit Card in Cypriot ATM%26#39;s? It has the cirus/mestro logo on the back?

Stupid question, I know but I get paid the day after I arrive in Cprus.

thanks

Hi,

You%26#39;re debit card can be used but I find going to a Cyprus bank and taking your passport to is far more secure. I am always concerned with cloning so find this way better.

Hope this helps.

Would you say it is best to withdraw money from ATM%26#39;s while away or take foreign currency with you? What works out cheapest and best exchange rate et..

Hi,

Me personally, I prefer to take enough currency and this year especially with the euro, take travellers cheques mainly for peace of mind. I will be taking my card as well just incase.

As long as you have a card that does not charge or low charges then card is an option but from what I can make out, exchange is about 1.23 approx to our £ and this varies in different places.

I am just watching each day but the post office is a good option for exchange but would really like it to go a little higher as it would help us for our hols.

Hope this helps.

I took out money while i was there last year a dn i did get charged for taking it out, same with the credit cards, charged again, im taking my money in euros this time, save myself the charges.

Hi,

Halifax is seemingly good to use abroad ref no charges but I am with Lloyds Tsb so only use in emergencies.

Like you, I will take euros and travellers chqs as well. My friend was saying if you cash so much I think 170 or more in travellers they only charged her 1% instead of 2% on commission at the Hotel she was at.

Thanks..

Hi there. My husband and I have been to Cyprus quite a few times and we find the best way is to take some euros with us then use the atm%26#39;s over there. You do get charged to use them so we get a couple of days money out at a time. There are atm%26#39;s everywhere and the instruction are in Greek and English and are easy as our cash machines. We have never had a problem taking money out.Yes your card will work no problem.

hi i have the same problem ...ive got a solo natwest card......so did it work in cyprus?

|||

We always take the bulk of money we might need in Euros

plus a bit of sterling

and we use credit cards for expensive meals car hire etc

We are Natwest customers and used our cards last time in ATMs in Paphos and Coral Bay as we got paid two days before we came home, however we got charged twice, once for the ATM and once for a cross border exchange charge.

I have checked with them again just recently and the charges are still the same and work out approx 5% of the value that you are taking out at the ATM. Minimum and maxiumum charges apply but of course you are also still bound by your daily withdrawal amount. I thought it was abit steep seen as how I bank with them. I%26#39;m going for travellers cheques and some currency.

im taking euros with travellers cheques, but undecided weather to take stirling or euro travellers cheques what do you think is best?
