Visiting Northern Cyprus for the First time in October 2008

We are considering flying into Larnica using Direct Travel and staying at the Bellapais Garden Hotel during October half term 2008 ie the last week in October.

We welcome feedback on any or all aspects of our plans including getting in and out of Kyrenia, staying at the BG Hotel, flying into Larnica and crossing the border and enjoying northern cyprus.

Last year we stayed in Paphos and were disappointed with the over development and lack of character, the weather was wonderful and the walk into the harbour most enjoyable.

We look forward to hearing from everyone.

Best wishes Pam

Been there several times and again this summer. What specifically do you want to know?

Bellapais Monastary Village ( BMV ) is certainly cheaper, we mistakenly belived Cyprus Paradise`s brochure description of how good it was...NOT! Having been to both BMV and BG I can tell you they are aimed at completely different markets. If it`s peace and relaxation you want with a %26quot;well-being%26quot; effect, no contest, go BG.

|||

oh really... may have to pop in there for a drink one evening when we are on our holiday.. a bit too pricey for my pocket to stay there :(

But from all this i can say there is nothing like Bellapais peace - amazing :)

@ Gibson

We%26#39;re considering Bellapais ourselves in early September. However as has been mentioned there is a large price difference.

You say they are aimed at two totally different markets, what are these?

All we want is something rural, reasonably quiet and a village feel. The hotel just needs to be clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. We don%26#39;t need tranquil gardens, meditation, luxury etc...

Is the Gardens that good, to pay the much higher price?

|||

This is the way we saw the 2 places.

Bellaipais Gardens: Small complex, about 18 rooms. Situated in centre of village; great views from breakfast restaurant and stunning backdrop at the pool ( 13th century abbey ). Breakfast better than anywhere else we`ve been in TRNC. Atmosphere is unique, they DON`T have children there unless they are older ( nothing for them to do anyway ). Very friendly staff and management.Duplex rooms fine, not luxurious but comfortable. Nice balcony view to the sea.

Monastary village: when we went to this hotel the Cyprus Paradise brochure stated %26quot;tranquil, peaceful, with an up-market feel%26quot;. If you look at our review you will see the JCB %26quot;tranquilly%26quot; digging (all day) about 30 metres from the pool. The rooms are small, cramped and dingy.Management couldn`t care less. They promised %26quot;no children under 12%26quot; but there were some as young as 2 and others unsupervised making a row.Pool was full of plastic rings and other trash, even when brats and parents eventually left poolside.

Which would you prefer?

|||

PS . BMV isn`t even in Bellapais so you will be rather sweaty after an uphill 1 kilometre walk to the village. Nothing of any interest any closer.

|||

I would agree with Gibson. BMV is an OK hotel if you have a hire car and intend to drive everywhere. It is near the main road that goes up to Bellapais but it would take a while to walk to the village and you would be a sweaty mess by the time you got there. I haven%26#39;t stayed at BG so cannot comment other than it is in the heart of the village and looks very nice. There are other hotels in the village - the Abbey Inn and the Residence but not 100% sure if they are still open (owned by the same person I believe) but it would be worth checking out their prices.

I also found this one hsbc.com.tr/eng/…Bbelgeler I think it is located just before the village on the approach road to the Abbey.
