Just returned from 15 nights at the Helios Bay Hotel and have had a fantastic time. Went back after getting merried there last year.
Firstly the weather was HOT, HOT, HOT with temperatures not getting lower that 33 degrees and reaching 40 degrees on several days! July %26amp; August tourists can expect EVERY day to be 45 which will be unbearable. Me and my wife just sat in the pool to cope on the 40 degree days!
Also me and my wife noticed how much more expensive things are since the change to the Euro. We also spoke to many other people who spent much more this year. If you have a car get away from the tourist areas for food and drink and prices and much better. Also the large Supermarkets are a place to get cheaper food and drink if you are self catering.
A WORD OF WARNING TO ANY EASYJET PASSENGERS......
My mum was due to fly out on Sunday from Manchester with Easyjet. She turned up and not until they went to board the plane were they told the flight had been %26quot;cancelled%26quot; due to no flight crew. They did nothing, and I mean nothing to help any of the passengers out, including famlies. They said they would have to arrange their own flights out and pay again with other airlines. They wouldn%26#39;t put them in a hotel either and literally abandoned them. The same was done to the passengers out in Paphos waiting to get back to Manchester. Now it gets even more interesting, as the %26quot;cancelled%26quot; flight did eventually fly out with a plane full of passengers. The plane full of passengers were a different set who had just bought last minute tickets as Eastjet resold the flight!!!!!! This info was not passed onto the passengers from the %26quot;cancelled%26quot; flight and Easyjet said no flight would be laid on for them! SleasyJet strike again. I am just saying to people be warned, as if things go wrong you are left on your own with no Customer Service whatsoever from them.
Another point is that Paphos airport is still a nightmare and ancient airport. Roll on the new one in November! EVERY single flight was delayed back to the UK and has been like that for months now. 1 Monarch flight boarded passengers and just sat on the tarmac for over 3 hours and 45 minutes just waiting to go! We could see all the passengers fanning themselves due to the heat. I felt so sorry for them, as couldn%26#39;t understand why they didn%26#39;t let them back off.
All in all though, Paphos is my all time holiday destination and love the place to bits. I can%26#39;t wait to get back there!

So glad you had a lovely holiday. Did you experience any problems with water shortages at all?
|||
Oh thanks for the reminder, as was going to mention the Water Shortage thing!
We had no problem at all with the water supply, and didn%26#39;t even see signs referring to it. I spoke to a view locals and they were saying how bad the situation is in the local villages, but the tourist areas all remain fine in Paphos.
Any more questions then please just post it and will answer them the best I can!

OMG im feeling worried about the heat now,im going in 3 weeks and you say 45, flaming hell, really, how on earth are we all going to cope with that king of heat, i almost wish i wasnt going, dont get me wrong ,i like the heat but i mean 45,i think we better hit the beach early and get out of it later on,honestly that has just put me off, ahhhh

We left yesterday and the temperature was 40 degrees and quite unbearable. You can%26#39;t spend long periods of time out in that heat! Luckily we only had 3 days of that kind of heat out of the 2 weeks. The local taxi driver was saying come July %26amp; August you get that temperature EVERY day at the very least and more than likely closer to 45 degrees as June was hotter than normal!
He also remembers a few years back where they had 54 degrees which even Air Conditioning didn%26#39;t help with!!!!!
You are best staying out of the sun during the hottest part of the day which is midday until 3pm!
You will still love Paphos!

yeah see, its true, when my mum and dad went in august 13 years ago it was 140, thats the conversion from degrees,im going to nissi bay this time as we went to phaphos last october, did you go and stay in your appartments or hotel when it was the heat f the day

My goodness I am so annoyed to read about your mum, we are due to fly with East Jet on Saturday 5th July and now I am really worried, can you tell me how she did eventually get to Cyprus, did her insurance cover her in any way, since the airline cancelled, we have being going to Cyprus for 10 years and never had flight problems or water problems and today I am really really worried about both.

Durham - Yes took shelter from the air con in our apartment!!!!! You really have to as the heat makes you feel so ill. Only needs short breaks, just give your body a breather!
With regards to what my mum had to do after the cancellation I will tell you.
Firstly Easyjet offere the chance to get one of the 10 seats for the next days flight, or make your own way to London Gatwick to get on a Easyjet flight there.
My mum decided on neither as wanted to get out to Paphos so went around all the airlines looking for a flight out. None were available at Manchester so booked a flight for £120 with Jet2 from Leeds/Bradford. She then had to pay £100 for a taxi to Leeds/Bradford and stay in a hotel for £50 to get the 8am flight out the next day! Very expensive but no other choice. She should get this back from Easyjet and failing that certainly from her Travel Insurance company.
What shocked me is that an airline did nothing to help passengers that had travelled from all over. I doubt any other airline would do this.
That is why I told my mum I would post the entire thing on Tripadvisor as heard lots of people talking about what happened with this flight. There were young kids upset that their holiday was ruined just like that and Easyjet just didn%26#39;t care.

I have to say we returned from Paphos yesterday also but didn%26#39;t find the heat to be such a problem. I must admit my only clue to the actual temperature was the day we went to Nicosia when I saw a thermometer reading 39, but that was in the middle of the city where it is generally hotter than on the coast.
We spent most days around the pool area, and coped by making frequent trips to the poolside bar. Frappe and Carlsberg can be very refreshing but you must drink lots of water, don%26#39;t rely on the alcohol as it does dehydrate you.
A great time was had, some really good meals and a couple of bad ones!

My son just came back on Tuesday evening (Easyjet - no problems) and he usually goes in August, he said it was as hot as then and sometimes he felt it was hotter. Last summer (late July) we had constant power cuts due to overload. No air con now that was horrendous!

I am glad you didn%26#39;t find it too hot Sassy, maybe lounging around the pool and sipping cool drinks is the answer. I can assure you it is murder to work in these temps.
