Euro/Cyprus pound

I was trying to explain to someone why prices had increased so much ( or appeared to increase - I realise the sterling pound/euro situation has made matters worse)- but ended up tying myself in knots ! Can someone just tell me what rate the Cypriot pound was fixed to the euro. Thanks !!

PS Have finally succumbed and booked our trip - decided there is nowhere we would rather be for an autumn break.

From memory when I was there a few weeks ago it said that the rate was 1 Euro 58 Cents to 1 Cypriot Pound on January 1st 2008 when they joined the Euro.

This was at the bottom of all the menu%26#39;s and on posters at Paphos Airport.

Many reasons why it appears more expensive, firstly the falling strength of the British Pound to the Euro, and secondly just like Britain, Cyprus has found the costs of food, gas, oil and water go up ten fold so this is passed onto the consumer!

Look at how the cosat of living is affecting people in this country, it is just the same in Cyprus.

Thanks for that - I was trying to explain the reasons to someone who has heard about price increases - but we are hearing the same from visitors to Spain and Portugal and look at the prices here in the Uk. i think this person was still thinking back to the days when you could get a meal for 2 for about CYP10 !!!!

Looking forward to our visit in October. Cheers

Chrissie (Incomer to Yorkshire and still quite proud!)
