Our favourite restaurants are Mamas in the Amathus area near the Four Seasons Hotel. This used to be a traditional taverna but has now gone upmarket and lost some of its charm but the food is excellent. Even more upmarket and owned by the same people is Terra Mare which is at the far end of Limassol by St Raphael. If you just want good basic food then you can%26#39;t go far wrong with Venezia. The owner is lovely and the prices are very reasonable. This is also in the Four Seasons area. Up in the old town there are some new trendy places which are more Italian than Cypriot but having said that the food is very good. If you want to take a ride up into the mountains then Forsos is typically greek and exellent value for money.

can you give me some idea of costs ?

all I can tell from reading this forum is that Cyprus is now expensive ! but what does %26quot;expensive %26quot; cost ?

We haven%26#39;t been to Cyprus this year yet i.e. since they went over to the Euro. I am sure this will make things more expensive. It used to be so cheap to eat there when we first started going but over recent years the prices have crept up and up. It really depends where you eat but last year in Mamas%26#39;s for two starters, main courses, bottle of wine and coffee it was about £40.00 - £50.00 but that is one of the more expensive restaurants (it used to be authentic Cypriot but is now more of an international menu). But if you like authentic greek you will find lots of places cheaper than that. Venezia is really reasonable and huge portions(Greek and English food). Danai is also a good restaurant next to Mamas but cheaper and more of a Cypriot atmosphere. When we took a taxi to the mountains for a meal it only cost about £10.00 for everything but it is meze style and you don%26#39;t get any choice they just keep bringing out the food. It was a great atmosphere with lots of locals. There is good food to be had there if you just seek it out. I really think you can find something to suit every budget. Terra Mare is a fabulous place but again an international menu. You pay the price of your main course then you can have soup, buffet and a dessert for that price. Of course you then have wine, water etc on top of that so it can work out expensive. Beautiful restaurant though. If you need to have a taxi on top of that it could be a very expensive evening. I am not sure which area of Limassol you are staying in but there are some fantastic restaurants and some not so good in all areas. Try looking at some of the Cyprus websites just to get an idea.

than you for your help

We plan to hire a car - but its 20 years since we were last in Cyprus so we know our old haunts will have gone

We have been going to a small restaurant fro the last ten years called Toscana Pizza. It is on the main strip just down from The Castle and The atlantica, across fro the Londa. You could get a three course meal for two , steaks and all the trimmings and a bottle of wine last year for 17 cypriot pounds. However, i%26#39;m not sure how much it will be now!! We go in 5 weeks so I will watch this listing closely.

Just returned from Limassol on 28th May. Our favourite restaurants were Mamas, Danae (next door to Mamas) and Aristocrats (on the main strip almost opposite the police station). A two course meal with local wine and coffee for 2 adults will set you back around 60 Euros in these establishments. There are many less expensive tavernas where you can avail of a reasonable 3 course meal for 11 Euros per person. Often you will receive a voucher for 1/2 carafe of free house wine on your next visit. We really enjoyed our holiday, however did find Cyprus has become expensive resulting in us spending around 30% more than would be usual for a two week vacation.

Costs ?

so is the likely cost of a meal out around 60e - thats £50 ??

Sounds quite reasonable to me

Thanks all

hi, we%26#39;ve just got back from limasol 2 days ago and we liked to eat at a place called NANDOS and TGI FRIDAYS.

For a good Cypriot meze with full bouzouki music programme go to Irini Street in Old Limassol.

It is 80 Irini Street and called To konatzi. They just do a full meze and it will be under E40 for 2 people with drink.

Last time I was in Limassol it was Easter and my other favourite place was closed - I believe it was just a temporary closure but it is Mikri Maria%26#39;s in Ankara Street. Similar area again.

Otherwise have a car and go up to Kamares Taverna in Lofou village. The meze there is excellent.

If you eat in the tourist areas near the Four Seasons you will get a tourist version of Meze so go into old town, or the Mesa Yetonia area and you will get the good traditional food.
